What is Brown Algae?
A large group of marine algae (Phaeophyta) including kelps and wracks, known for their high mineral and polysaccharide content.
Why is it used in products?
They provide antioxidants, hydration, and skin-firming benefits, making them staple ingredients in marine-based skincare lines.
Why does it clog pores?
Brown algae species contain some of the highest iodide concentrations of any cosmetic ingredient, and iodides are proven acne aggravators. Their alginates form a gel-like film that physically blocks pores. This one-two punch of chemical irritation and physical obstruction is bad news for breakout-prone skin.
