What is Carrageenan Moss?
The raw red seaweed from which carrageenan is derived, typically Chondrus crispus or similar species.
Why is it used in products?
It's used as a less-processed, more "natural" source of carrageenan, appealing to clean beauty formulations.
Why does it clog pores?
As the unrefined source of carrageenan, this moss carries even more iodides and sulfated polysaccharides than the purified extract. It forms a thick gel layer on skin that blocks pore openings. The high iodide concentration also triggers follicular inflammation in acne-prone skin.
