What is Coal Tar?

A thick, dark liquid produced by the destructive distillation of coal, containing thousands of compounds including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Why is it used in products?

It has anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and anti-scaling properties that make it effective in treating psoriasis, eczema, and dandruff.

Why does it clog pores?

Coal tar is extremely heavy and occlusive, creating a thick film that seals pores completely. Its complex mixture of hydrocarbons irritates follicular walls and promotes abnormal keratinization (excess dead cell production inside the pore). The result is both physical blockage and biological disruption of normal pore function.
