What is Coconut Alkanes?
Saturated hydrocarbons derived from coconut oil through a hydrogenation and deoxygenation process, creating a lightweight emollient.
Why is it used in products?
They're marketed as a natural, plant-derived alternative to silicones, providing a silky, lightweight skin feel without synthetic ingredients.
Why does it clog pores?
Despite being processed from coconut oil, coconut alkanes retain some of the pore-clogging potential of their source. Their hydrocarbon structure forms a film on skin similar to mineral oil, blocking pore openings. While lighter than coconut oil itself, they can still contribute to comedone formation in acne-prone skin.
