Coconut Butter

Also known as: Coconut Manna, Creamed Coconut

What is Coconut Butter?

A thick paste made from pureed whole coconut meat, containing both the oil and the fiber of the coconut.

Why is it used in products?

It provides rich moisturization and has a pleasant tropical scent, used in body care and lip products.

Why does it clog pores?

Coconut butter contains all the comedogenic properties of coconut oil (high in lauric and myristic acids) plus added coconut solids that can physically block pores. The thick paste is extremely occlusive and slow to absorb. It's even more pore-clogging than coconut oil alone due to its dense, fibrous consistency.
