What is Corallina Officinalis?
A calcified red algae that forms hard, coral-like structures in shallow marine waters, rich in calcium carbonate and minerals.
Why is it used in products?
It's used for its mineral content and exfoliating micro-particles, and marketed as a marine-sourced skin-renewing ingredient.
Why does it clog pores?
The calcium carbonate particles from this algae can physically block pores and create micro-irritation. Its marine-derived minerals include iodides that trigger follicular inflammation. Together, the physical blockage and chemical irritation make it a pore-clogging concern.
