Why is it used in products?

These dyes provide vibrant red, pink, and coral colors to lipsticks, blushes, and other color cosmetics.

Why does it clog pores?

D&C Red dyes are known comedogenic agents — they contain pigment particles that can lodge in pore openings and block sebum flow. Some of these dyes also cause contact irritation that inflames the follicular wall. Red dyes #17, #21, and #36 are especially problematic, scoring high on comedogenicity scales.
