What is Hypnea Musciformis?
A red seaweed found in tropical and subtropical waters, used as a source of carrageenan and other gel-forming polysaccharides.
Why is it used in products?
It's used for its natural thickening and gelling properties, providing a smooth texture to creams and gels.
Why does it clog pores?
Hypnea Musciformis releases carrageenan-type polysaccharides that form a pore-sealing gel on the skin surface. Its high iodide content inflames follicles and triggers comedone formation. As a carrageenan source, it carries the same comedogenic risks as purified carrageenan.
