What is Isocetyl Stearate?

A synthetic ester of isocetyl alcohol and stearic acid, used as an emollient and skin-conditioning agent.

Why is it used in products?

It provides a rich, moisturizing feel without heaviness and helps improve the texture and spreadability of formulations.

Why does it clog pores?

Isocetyl stearate creates a lipid film within the follicle that prevents sebum from draining naturally. Its moderately large molecular structure allows it to accumulate in pore openings over time. Dermatological testing consistently rates it as comedogenic.
