A synthetic ester of isopropyl alcohol and palmitic acid, one of the most common emollients in the cosmetics industry.
Why is it used in products?
It provides a non-greasy, silky feel and is widely used to improve product texture and help active ingredients penetrate.
Why does it clog pores?
Isopropyl palmitate is highly comedogenic, scoring 4 out of 5 in standard testing. Like isopropyl myristate, its small molecular structure lets it penetrate into pores and form stubborn lipid plugs. It's found in a staggering number of skincare and makeup products, making it one of the most common hidden acne triggers.
