What is Lanolin Alcohol?
The alcohol fraction isolated from lanolin wax, consisting of a complex mixture of sterols and fatty alcohols.
Why is it used in products?
It serves as an emulsifier and thickener that helps stabilize creams and lotions while adding emollient properties.
Why does it clog pores?
Lanolin alcohol has a waxy molecular structure that forms an occlusive layer over pores, impeding the natural shedding of dead skin cells. It also thickens sebum within the follicle, encouraging plugs to form. Its comedogenic rating is among the highest of the lanolin family.
