Why is it used in products?
It gives products a thick, luxurious texture and excellent moisturization, often used in rich creams and balms.
Why does it clog pores?
Myristyl myristate is highly comedogenic due to its heavy, waxy molecular structure that sits on the skin and seals pore openings. Both the myristyl alcohol and myristic acid components are individually comedogenic, and their combination amplifies the pore-clogging effect. It's one of the heavier esters and is very slow to absorb.
