What is Octyl Palmitate?
A synthetic ester of 2-ethylhexanol and palmitic acid, functionally identical to ethylhexyl palmitate.
Why is it used in products?
It provides a silky, non-greasy emollient effect and is widely used to improve the feel and spreadability of cosmetic products.
Why does it clog pores?
Octyl palmitate is moderately to highly comedogenic, depositing a lipid film inside follicles that blocks sebum from draining. Its branched molecular structure helps it penetrate into pore openings where it forms persistent plugs. It's one of the most widespread comedogenic esters in everyday skincare and makeup.
