What is Oleyl Alcohol?
An unsaturated fatty alcohol derived from oleic acid, found naturally in fish oil and various plant sources.
Why is it used in products?
It's an effective emollient and emulsifier that also acts as a penetration enhancer, helping other ingredients absorb into skin.
Why does it clog pores?
Oleyl alcohol is highly comedogenic, combining the pore-irritating properties of oleic acid derivatives with occlusive film-forming ability. It penetrates into the follicular lining and disrupts the lipid balance, promoting comedone formation. Its penetration-enhancing properties also drag other irritants deeper into pores.
