What is PEG 200 Dilaurate?

A polyethylene glycol diester of lauric acid with 200 moles of ethylene oxide, used as an emulsifier and skin-conditioning agent.

Why is it used in products?

It helps create stable emulsions and adds a smooth, conditioned feel to both rinse-off and leave-on products.

Why does it clog pores?

PEG 200 Dilaurate deposits lauric acid-derived residues on the skin that can block pore openings. Despite its high ethoxylation, the dual lauric acid chains give it enough lipophilic character to create a comedogenic film. Acne-prone skin may react to the lauric acid components with increased comedone formation.
