What is Solulan 16?
A brand-name ethoxylated lanolin alcohol that has been modified with 16 moles of ethylene oxide for improved solubility.
Why is it used in products?
It acts as a nonionic emulsifier and superfatting agent, helping products feel richer and more moisturizing.
Why does it clog pores?
Solulan 16 has been shown to be highly comedogenic in rabbit ear assays. It deposits a residue on skin that blocks the follicular opening, preventing sebum from exiting normally. This makes it one of the worst offenders for triggering closed comedones.
