Ulva Lactuca
Also known as: Sea Lettuce, Green Laver
What is Ulva Lactuca?
A thin, bright green seaweed commonly known as sea lettuce, found in coastal waters worldwide.
Why is it used in products?
It's used for its high vitamin and mineral content, providing hydration and skin conditioning in marine skincare formulations.
Why does it clog pores?
Ulva Lactuca produces polysaccharides (ulvans) that form a film on the skin and block pore drainage. Its marine mineral content includes iodides that trigger follicular irritation. Even though it's a thin, delicate seaweed, its extract has real comedogenic potential for breakout-prone skin.
